Islandwood
Islandwood is a nonprofit focused on outdoor and nature-based children’s education. They seek to increase access to meaningful experiences in nature for children of all backgrounds.
Islandwood sits on a beautiful 250-acre forested campus on Bainbridge Island, just across the Puget Sound west of Seattle. The campus boasts six distinct natural ecosystems, miles of trails, a garden classroom, and sustainable, LEED Gold certified construction.
We picked Islandwood so everyone would be able to stay on-site in order to maximize our time together and remove the friction of commuting to/from the venue. We also feel good about supporting Islandwood’s mission and commitment to sustainability.
Lodging
We have lodging available for everyone to stay on site. Islandwood’s summer camp style lodges are the perfect blend of modern comfort and rustic nostalgia. Each sustainably-constructed lodge is two-stories, including a large communal gathering space and private bathrooms in each room. Here are some of the thoughtfully designed sustainability features of the lodges:
Solar-heated water from roofs preheats water for showers and sinks.
Upstairs areas feature cork flooring, a renewable resource and sound absorber.
Throw rugs in bunkrooms are woven from upholstery remnants and discarded clothing.
Flooring in the Great Room and Loft made from recycled wood.
Food + Drinks
All meals will be provided on-site for the weekend. The chef staff at Islandwood is committed to showcasing local, seasonal, sustainably sourced ingredients. Meals are traditionally served family-style. Any special dietary requirements can be accommodated and we’ll make sure to collect those from you prior to the weekend.
Since Islandwood is a non-profit for kids by day, there is no hard alcohol; only beer, wine, and low-proof spirits.
